Up early to get our bags dispatched correctly – was a bit more complicated than we expected, but i think we did it (we’ll find out on Tuesday – the night before we get on our plane to the UK).
After breakfast we got a taxi to the train station where we arrived with plenty of time to work out where our train went from (Platform zero in case you were wondering). Our train journey was in two parts with just ten minutes to make the connection in the middle to the bullet train. This being Japan everything went like clockwork though and we made the connection with 8 minutes to spare 🙂
On arrival at Kanazawa we walked the 200 metres to out hotel, which we turned in to a 500 metre journey by exiting the station on the wrong side initially (my fault). We had then planned to do some touristing, but got distracted by a shopping mall so spent a couple of hours there before we could get in to our room.
After some nap time (theme emerging) we went for a simply oishii (delicious) wagju beef burger where the staff were really lovely and all waved goodbye from the kitchen when we left like we were old friends. One even told me my Japanese was really good (and i don’t think he was even joking).
To burn off the calories we walked to the old town and back via some little back streets, which were almost as fascinating as the destination itself!
Hotel is very modern and lovely after the faded glory of the Kyoto hotel (which was also very nice but in a different way).
