Day 60 – Vancouver

First the first time in what seems like weeks we didn’t have a deadline this morning so we wandered across the road and chose the best bits from a few different cafes to eat in our room while looking at the amazing view.

After that we wandered 2 minutes to a bus stop we can see from our window to get a bus to the Capilano Suspension Bridge where we spent a while walking over wobbly bridges over the ravine and up in the trees.

Once we’d had our fill of forest we got the bus to Grouse Mountain (which we can also see from our hotel window). We got the cable car/gondola to the top, had lunch in a cafe then went to look at the bear sancturary. This was our last hope as we’d not seen any bears so far. There are two bears in the reserve, both orphans, and brought up in captivity. Initially we were out of luck, but then we spotted something in the woods. Then they both emerged in time for the keeper’s talk.

After admiring the bears we watched a rather dangerous / slapstick stype lumber jack display, then we walked up the rest of the mountain, which was very steep, and made for a slidey descent later.

After we’d exhausted all the mountain had to offer we headed back down the gondola and got the shuttle bus back to opposite our hotel.

Then followed some powernapping (i’ve been feeling very fluey today) and then some suitcase organising/weighing. And this evening we’ve been for a wander round the waterfront as it’s our last full evening of our holidays.

Finally, it looks like we were lucky with the timing of our Rockies tour – Jasper, where we were just a couple of days ago, has now been evacuated due to the wild fires: https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jul/23/canada-wildfire-jasper-national-park-evacuated
