It’s Jane’s birthday today ! We’ve both been feeling a bit under the weather and suspect we may have caught the cold/flu lurgy going round the bus – it started off with one chap with a hacking cough on day 1 and by the end of the week a significant proportion of the bus was either coughing or masked up. The couples who sat in front and behind us on the bus both had it so it was inevitable we’d get it eventually. I think we’re on the mend now, but it was good timing to feel a bit tired while on the train for two days.
Our second and final day on the Rocky Mountaineer train was a little more interesting than the day before due to the variety of different countrysides we went through, and it was a slightly shorter day as we arrived at 6pm in to a station nearish the centre of Vancouver. it was also a bit cooler (high twenties rather than high thirties) so standing out on the viewing platform was more pleasant.
Along the way we saw forest fires just above the train and i saw a man’s brand new hat get blown off his head, over a bridge and in to the river below.
The exit from the train this evening was very efficient with our three suitcases already loaded on to a trolley which we pushed 10 metres to a waiting taxi who took us to our luxury hotel for our last two nights in Vancouver.
The hotel is situated much nearer the waterfront than the hotel we stayed in with the balcony week before last (are you keeping up with our hotels? i know i’m struggling) which is a nicer location.
