Day 10 – Kanazawa

Today started rather dramatically. I looked at my phone sometime around 6.30am and suddenly an alert popped up in Japanese. it had a large building wobbling. I said to jane “I think there’s been an earthquake” then seconds later the whole room shook for a good while. We’re on the 10th floor so there was lots of swaying going on. Turns out there was a 5.9 earthquate (on their scale of 1 to 7) just over 100km away. No harm done, so we got up and had breakfast.

Today was our last full guided day in Japan and once again, a lovely guide and driver took us to see the many local sites. We went in a samarai house and learnt about them and later on a geisha house and learnt about them too. We walked round some amazing gardens (including one of Japan’s top three gardens) and various streets, learning about the customs etc. Lunch was traditional japanese fayre, and Jane had a gold leaf covered icecream in the afternoon!

We also saw a gold leaf factory which had gold covered bathrooms, and were shown a secret passageway behind a temple to the geisha area used by those who didn’t want to be seen visiting that area.

There was also a brief trip to the modern art gallery which was also excellent stuff.

We were back at our hotel by 3.30pm for nana naps. Dinner was back to the burger place and some browsing round the shops.
