This morning we packed our bags, grabbed some breakfast then checked out of our hotel. We jumped in to a beat up taxi with a grumpy driver who took us to our new hotel a couple of minutes drive away. This hotel is in a much nicer part of town – but we’re only here for one night as it’s the first night of our Rockies organised tour. more on that later …
We walked half an hour to a little ferry place where we got a little ferry across to Granville island as they have a saturday market (which is on every day it turned out). We saw some people getting ready for filming, including a giant inflatable thing that stunt people use. No idea what the film was though, sorry.
Anyway, we had a nice wander round the island and got our lunch from the market and ate it watching the world go by.
After some more wandering (where we accidentally left the island a number of times as there are so many roads on to it as well as the ferry) we got the little ferry back, and then walked along the sea wall up to Stanley Park, where we did more walking. In fact we did a massive loop back to the hotel, which included some dense forest, a pond and some totem poles.
This evening we met some of the other 41 people on our tour in a welcome evening. There are a couple from New Zealand, quite a few from Australia and we’re yet to meet everyone else. Jane and I are priding ourselves on probably being the youngest couple, and forcing ourselves to be brave and meet new people.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT : The next few days look like they might be really busy and there won’t always be wifi in the hotels. Plus, if tomorrow’s schedule is anything to go by we’ll need to be up before 6am. So expected a limited service for the rest of our trip I’ll catch up when we get home with the videos and I may not be able to publish pictures / wordy updates every day. So don’t panic if we miss a day!
