The weather forecast was a bit mixed today so being a bit cooler, after breakfast we found our way to the tube station under our hotel and headed back to where we were yesterday. The underground was a bit more complicated than Tokyo, and we got the wrong ticket as we had to get a street train as well as the underground, but we got there in the end.
When we arrived this time we crossed the bridge, turned right and climbed up a steep hill for twenty minute to see some wild monkeys. Wild ? They were livid (well some of them).
It was great fun watching the various monkeys going about their business – which included a feeding session by the keepers as well as the opportunity for actual normal humans to feed them by hand through a fence (to avoid losing your arm).
Coming down the hill was much quicker and we had a quick look round the town.
After lunch (a ball of rice wrapped in a blanket of bacon on a stick for me, something authentic for Jane) we got the train back to the underground station and headed to the other side of town to walk to the start of the ‘philosophers walk’ which was quite a walk in itself.
Highlights of the journey were hearing some cuckoo sounds being plaid in an underground station for no apparent reason, and jane’s sunglasses falling off her head in to a stranger’s lap. The stranger was asleep so didn’t seem to notice!
Before we started the path we went in to a cafe i had a ‘sandowich’ in a funny little cafe then hit the trail. Jane had some tea and cake and the cafe lady was very excited to tell us about the cake selection (wish i’d recorded that bit)
The walk was along the side of a small canal / stream and was really lovely. by the time we got to the end we were a bit tired of walking and looking at things. We looked at the bus times but then decided to walk back for fun. Google maps took us on a fascinating walk through small little local streets and this was another highlight of the day.
It’s been raining all afternoon so we got a bit wet., my watch tells me we walked near 22,000 steps today.
This evening we went out to eat in the underground mall beneath the hotel as it was rainy out. i had a sandwich and jane had an egg on toast. Easy.
Now it’s now. you’re up to date.
