rock hassock of the week
this hassock isn't patterned but is doing a great job angling jane's marshall amp at her at church last sunday. it's a roadie hassock on a mission from God.

for ages our girls referred to McDonalds as a restaurant. which i suppose it is. still was cute though. 'daddy took us to a restaurant for a happy meal'.
paper persons required
i like this sign. i especially like how they've clarified it's not actually paper persons they need, it's people delivery persons. just so you don't get confused.
it's also interesting that they changed the word 'deliverys' to areas. probably to avoid a spelling amiguity.
i do that myself - whenever i try to write scared i never know whether i've written scarred (or vice versa - still not sure) so write 'worried' instead.

three signs about doors
last week was a door sign day with three fantastic door signs spotted in different shops in close proximity to each other.

digitally worsened
i saw this outside a photo shop - it's a classic advertising picture which is usually in glorious colour with the version on the right hand side better exposed by the people who run the shop proving they have the technology skills to digitally improve your shots.
only this advert obviously spends a lot of its time in direct sunlight and has faded to just blue. not a great advert.
it's a man thing
the cost of spending a penny in brussels seems to be about 40 euro cents. this one was quite nice, despite the rather intrusive signage.
london eye and balloons
usual story - took a few pictures then couldn't decide which one i like best ! i like the curve on the second one, but somehow the first one seems more 'comfortable'. dunno. what do you think ?

this is an arty home made bollard in an art expo. what more could you wish for ?

mannquin pis is a long time friend of funkypancake (i'd suggest you'd look in the categories archive, but they are rather deaded at the moment)

esther did a two day orchestra school thing over the weekend which culminated in a concert yesterday afternoon. as usual every parent became a private archivist and we all enjoyed the concert through our own glass telescopes.

in a rare moment of coordination i managed to get tickets to see Adam Green when i was in brussels. he was totally excellent. video of a single is here

funkypancake is five years old
a rare day of just one picture to celebrate the 5th anniversary of funkypancake ! During that time i've blogged a pile of fresh pictures every day (although occasionally they didn't show up for technical reasons!).
i'd like to thank everyone who keeps visiting, and especially those who leave comments, to say thanks for encouraging me to keep doing this nonsense.
i'm so glad the comments are back working, although i've had to change a few things to bring them back. in particular i've had to remove the list of categories and the list of monthly archives over to the right. I may also have to remove the categories from each entry on the front page.
that'll be a shame as i like categories - they are my attempt to order the world. But the latest version of the blogging software has changed how categories work which lead to the recent server meltdown. So, although i'll still categorise each entry, it may not show on the front index page. at least for the time being.
whilst i'm doing some typing, i must refer you to two other blogs which are almost exactly the same age as funkypancake and are still going strong (much stronger than funkypancake). i'd consider both of these chaps friends in the online and offline world. They are Russel Davies and Roger Darlington Happy bloggy birthday to you chaps too !
And of course an extra special thanks to mrs funkypancake and the two mini pancakettes for putting up with me generally and specifically.

bubbles
i had a day off work yesterday and we had a family trip to intech science centre and planetarium. The planetarium is excellent, and the girls enjoyed the hands on stuff, although we did get scienced out eventually.

this little bug was hiding under some electrically conducting tubes at a hands on science museum thing. it was esther's favourite thing.
although, it's all very well being hands on, but this wriggler only had legs. if the comments were working i'd ask you whether it was a millipede or a centipede and whether we really cared. but they still aren't so i shalln't.

we went to a fantastic dedication service and party yesterday and it was excellent. everyone was much too trendy though, and jane and realised that we are definitely old. which is a shame, but inevitable.
anyway, it's nice to see drinks with prices on.
friends and food
we've been without a kitchen for a couple of weeks (probably a bit longer) but there's hopefully only this week to go before we get reinstalled. over the last few weeks we've had loads of dinners out from people at church and it's been brilliant ! so, thanks to everyone who has had us round !

flood
there are a few reasons why i get up at 4.45am to drive down one of this country's busiest motorways so i can start work at 6am. the main one is because it allows me to leave the office at 4pm (meeting commitments permitting) and i can be home to have dinner with the family
last night when i got back we decided it was still light and warm enough to go for a quick geocache and look at a ford.
i noted this 'flood' sign in the middle of the ford.
by the way, another couple of reasons i get up so early are: that motorway isn't busy, and (most relevantly) my clock gains about a minute every fortnight and i've been slowly getting up earlier for the last year without really realising it ! it also means my clock is always wrong.

i like this simple map of the south bank. i especially like the fact it shows the distance as 'just half an hour walk'. i imagine for a lot of people that would not be 'just' a short walk.

this wall appeared (and melted) in front of the tate modern over the weekend.
it looked pretty good (i think it had been there since saturday and i took these photos on monday morning)
