these vacuum cleaners were hanging around near st james' tube station looking quite pleased with themselves. you can see their shepherd who was guiding them in to their night time pen to the top right of the picture.

belated easter
what with the server meltdown, i didn't get a chance to wish you a proper happy easter and i forgot to post these pictures. i imagine if you thought you had a drink problem that this little tableau might finish you off.

two signs opposite each other with different typographical properties. interesting how it changes the meaning. there's more capitalisation in the lower one too. i wish they had version markings on so we knew which one is the improved model.

award winning charity shop
it's a shame comments aren't working as i'd love to get your thoughts on how a charity shop can become 'award winning'. perhaps they excelled in odours. or colour coordinated clothe rails, or retro vinyl, or number of salad spinners held in stock, or most used wedding dress, or ...
everyone remembers their first wimpy
kezia and i went to a posh riverside town and after duck feeding and play-parking we went for lunch in Wimpy. it had everything i remember - knife and forks, disappointingly untasty burgers and poor service (they never brought our drinks and the waitress couldn't have seemed to have cared less about us being there) !
still, it's great to know Wimpy is still going strong and hasn't changed in all these years !
bloggy badness
just a quick apology for the lack of comments and slightly more random arrival of daily updates on funkypancake at the moment. it seems funkypancake is causing serious problems to the webserver, so whilst we're working on ways to make things better, all comments are off i'm afraid.
hopefully, when it gets sorted, things will be much faster and betterer and lovelyier than they were before and we can all be happier and live longer lives.

i was delighted to get my results back for the Open University course i did last year. you can read about it here I was pleased to get 97% ! These photos were my final portfolio
i should also thank all you kind readers and even kinder commenters who have encouraged me taking photos. i'm simply loving all the comments at the moment - they are the funniest bit of the blog i recon.
i'm now thinking of doing this course at the Open College of Arts Would anyone be interested in enrolling at the same time to swap notes as we go through and each save £100 on the fees ? could be good fun to have a group of us doing it at the same time.

my first pain au raisin
being chocolate free is still a nightmare and i regularly dream of scoffing the stuff. i've still managed to keep it up for several months (i can't remember when i actually decided to stop).
anyway, i've been having croissants for breakfast instead of pain au chocolat, but a cafe i went to didn't have croissants so i had to have either pain au choc or pain au raisin (both seen here).
it was alright, but nothing can ever be better than chocolate. humph.

there's a great exhibition of things at the Bargehouse art gallery in london until the end of the month. i loved it so much i'm going to go back at the weekend.

occasionally when i'm walking across london i see a street with such a fantastic name i have to detour down it. this was one such place, and i ended up getting a bit lost as a result, but well worth it !

i had meetings in london nearly every day last week, and walked a similar way each day, so i got to see some evolving mundaness - like this bollard wearing a jet pack

sad stories of have a go heroes
there's a little park near st paul's cathedral which has a whole row of memorial stones for people who died whilst trying (not all successfully) to save others.
the stories are fascinating yet really sad. well worth clicking on the pictures to read the inscriptions.
i've walked through this park loads of times but this was the first time i've spotted them. i was actually looking for this

we saw these people heading for the starting line of the Reading Half Marathon yesterday
and then we saw them finishing - still going strong
running in the family
jane and esther did the family fun run things yesterday morning.
they got silver and gold blankets when they finished which was all you could ever wish for !

when we got home i went to bed and slept all afternoon, despite being the person in our family who did the least exercise !

Jen and Leo have kindly allowed me to post some pictures from our recent photo 'engagement' shoot thingbob around bracknell to celebrate their togetherness (and as an apology for not being brave enough to take their wedding photos!)
we started near one of the many underpasses. as they posed a flourescent oomer-zoomer whizzed by much to everyone's delight
then we divided in to a bookshop for a photo with Lola
we looked a bald mannequins
and stood in front of signs with hidden wedding messages
jen ran in to iceland to stand by this sign, this time symbolising the courtship phase of their relationship.
and here's a wedding dress in the Oxfam shop window, worn by a green faced mannequin
and a giant diamond ring
and this was a bit weird from a perspective point of view. they are standing above some goths.
we did do a few sensible shots too.
marriage is a journey etc.
and finally we ended in this beautiful garden.
we ended up with a couple of hundred shots, which i narrowed down to about a hundred which were ok. these are just a selection.
