this was the scene at tescos yesterday morning before the doors open. only grey cards (even the green one was grey), grey sky and wet grey carpark. classic british weather.

a slippery day
who'd have thunk the ice would have been slippery
i took the day of work yesterday to look after the girls as they had an inset day and jane was working. so we went ice skating in the morning then headed to a transport cafe for a greasy slippery fry up.
the watched snog
i went to see the Rodchenko exhibition on friday and was inspired to take this photo. it was only afterwards i noticed the girls with balloons on the top left.
guess the scene
can anyone guess what's going on here ? you've got to guess the two parts to win. as a clue it was taken in central london. the blur is thanks to me experimenting with motion blur in preparation for a different shot. 20 pence in cash for the first correct answer.

i know what you are thinking, but it's not. there's no such thing as a sugar lump tree. it's in fact a polystyrene plant. the one is in bloom, hence the poly blobs on the end of the spiky branches.
this sign would work well on my desk at work.

this shop in bracknell, england is quite fantastic. all the mannequin's were bold. except this one, which had covered up with a hat and sun glasses. she was a lot shorter than the other mannequins too ...

whilst out on a photoshoot with jen and leo (oooh, look at me!) i was delighted to find this dummy
Leo had asked me earlier what kinds of things i usually photograph. And there waiting for us was one of my favourite subjects !
it's all going wrong in the graveyard
perhaps reflecting the decay beneath the ground, many gravestone statues seem to be losing parts and even entire limbs
if you can keep your head when all those around you are losing theirs, perhaps you are the cause ?

thames path - part 15 days lock to wallingford
i had a day off work yesterday so we could head back to the thames path.
our last outing was in October due to flooding etc. it was still very wet under foot. but rather than soaking, it was muddy and slidey which made walking tricky

here's a jetty at benson
when we finally got to wallingford, chris and i took kezia to the pub whilst the other ladies recovered our car from the starting point. chris wore his hat in the pub and they told him to take it off. i guess he looked too much like a hooligan youth type.

there's been some crazy sunsets over the last few days. here's a very red sky over a train station. the photos doesn't really do it justice.

plants on the move in a wheelchair
i was in london for a meeting yesterday and got to take some classic funkypancake street junk photos. here's a good one. it's a plant pot in a wheelchair.
i suppose it's only fair they should get wheelchairs since they can't walk. some can potter about.
i'm not sure if the yellow chair was anything to do with it.
graves
i apologise for hte amount of gravestones i'm going to post in the next few weeks. i'll try and theme them so it's not too tedious. anyway, these appealed to me as they seem to show the method of death. can you imagine if all gravestones had to done this way ? it would make them more interesting and more sad and tasteless all at the same time.

giant pencil case
this is a really nice idea. it's a workman's hording just off hyde park. the pens and pencils are all giant versions, and are much better than the usual builders barrier things (there's a word for that). you can see the bus stop in the foreground to give you an idea of scale.
if in doubt, leave it out !
this giant sign was at the edge of a field in the middle of no-where. i've no idea what it means.

there was some competition going on at paddington station last night for the world's longest hug. i noticed the st john's ambulance people were standing by in case there were any difficulties.

today and yesterday i'm on a work course at Chelsea football club. during the breaks we popped out on to the terrace to look at the view. at one point this bird landed on the railing next to our seating area. there were two of these flying machines apparently worrying pigeons

i've had this geofairy travelbug ready to go to the Fairies Hole geocache for too long. yesterday we finally made it.

kezia's birthday
kezia became a year older yesterday and said she felt like a completely new person. i asked what was different and she said her age. so that's that. here she is playing a birthday game with poochy.

we had a family pancake throw off last night. jane's mum won for finess and enthusiasm. jane's dad won for sarcasm. jane won for just being generally fantastic

military museum
an age ago i took the girls to a military museum where they had some great military mannequins
they also had some strange military death signage
and a little tableau at child height to show what mass destruction looked like. nice.
4 years of measured walking
Exactly 4 years ago to the day (give or take 2 days) i started measuring my daily walking distances. In total i've walked over 8,000 miles. in a fortnight's time i'd have reached hong kong from london if i'd walked all that in a straight line. i didn't though, so i haven't
.
here are big eye tony's shoes as i thought i should include some shoes along with this post, and i spotted these shoes in my yet-to-post picture folder (currently containing 1,445 images i'm afraid)
hassock of the week
wild weather at sea as experienced recently around britain.
which reminds me - i am simply loving the shipping forecast on the way to work in the morning. My alarm clock is fast and gets faster by about 5 minutes every month. As a result i'm waking up at about 4.55am at the moment and am in my car heading to work around 5.15am. for the first 10 minutes i listen to the shipping forecast which is simply lovely. An example is ' Forties Cromarty Forth Tyne Dogger. Southwest backing south. gale 8 to storm 10, veering west, severe gale 9 to violent storm 11. Rain, then squally showers. Poor, becoming moderate.'
They also say things like 'rough perhaps violent storm' at the end. i love the vagueness of that. you want more than 'perhaps' from experts.

i wonder if for the modern age they should also do a shopping forecast giving reviews of shopping centres:
"meadowhall, blue water, northerly traffic queues. sales on. bargains possible. frustration mild to strong, perhaps unbearable"
or perhaps a sipping forecast:
"tea. strong. white. sugars 2, becoming sweeter. perhaps tepid".
a thoroughly scottish evening
we went to a neighbour's birthday party last night. it doubled up as a burns night celebration as they are scottish. it was most excellent and we had a brilliant night.
the box above contains bagpipes, and everything you need to be scottish. seen below is a bottle of irn bru. also very scottish.
matt's signs
matt (the web landlord) found both of these signs and thought them funkypancake fodder, and so they are. the one above is self explanatory.
the one below says 'no super trolley' which is a shame.
the odd couple
here's a couple on a walk. the lady seems to be striding on whilst the chap behind looks a little annoyed. another walk spoiled by a petty argument perhaps. or maybe she's said something about the eye on his jacket.
actually, looking closer at the picture, it looks like the chap is carrying a rather large knife.

i was pleased with the shot above just as it was, but then i noticed the floating bollard.
