dave and em
our good friends dave and em came for dinner last night. they were our first guests this year due to our domestic reshaping, which is finally nearing an end.
it was great to catch up and also to play articulate which is a game i'd forgotten all about

no need for the 'to the' in this sign, which is perhaps why they put them small. you know. as a compromise.
elderly people
kezia said this sign must mean elderly people are people over 30 years old. but she also told me people put cucumbers on their eyes so they look like people with cucumber eyes, so i don't believe everything she says. so i suggest you don't either.
jethro tull - a musical cul de sac ?
i found a jethro tull album to listen to whilst blogging this evening (Songs from the Wood). i'm considering reinventing myself as a pixie.
thames path - part 16 wallingford to moulsford
i had the day off yesterday and it was back to the thames path after a couple of months off due to construction/destruction and illness. we were all fighting fit (and nearly builder-free) so our short reintroductory 4 mile walk from wallingford to moulsford
here was the first view of the thames as we crossed the bridge in wallingford
what do you do if you haven't got any signs with the arrows pointing the right way ? turn one of the other ones sideways obviously.

we passed fairmile hospital, which is now inmate less. it used to be owned by the Berkshire Mental Health Trust and now looks set for regeneration

Henley Arts Trail
esther, kezia and I went on the Henley Arts Trail yesterday. I didn't take too many photos as it was too wet, and people's art is their copyrights etc.
it really was a great day out. it was fascinating to see the different types of artists and see their studios. everyone was so nice and jolly.
so, all in all, another great bank holiday weekend activity !

sonning scarecrows
today (bank holiday monday) and yesterday are the biannual Sonning Scarecrow Trail. As usual there was a fantastic number of excellent scarecrows (75+ i think) in this pretty village by the Thames.
this year we decided to give marks out of 10 on our map to help us choose our favourite. Kezia was in charge of numbers.

tate modern is getting ready for an exciting weekend of long weekend activities. looks like a lorra lorra fun.

Roger Molloy
i bumped in to famous artist Roger Molloy in Brick Lane selling his wares. he's a chap who is living his art and doing things properly, making ends meet in a pay as you go kind of way. we had a quick chat, i bought one of his pictures and we went our separate ways. well, i did. he stood where he was and continued his activities. what a nice chap.

i conversated with the guard, but he was none the wiser about the plug. in fact he seemed quite disturbed by it. i left him deep in thought.
vin's quality find
regular commenter Vin sent me these photos of a fantastic passport photo find. he also sent me the actual photo which i've put in my found photos tin.

these toilets had an area which was cordoned off. it was quite a posh place so i suspect that it was the VIPee area.

we had a agreat day as usual yesterday at waddesdon manor with my mum. more photos to come - just haven't had a chance to sort them yet !
bt tower
i was lucky enough to get another trip up BT tower. unfortunately after the fortnight of fantastic weather it was cloudy and rainy when i went up so i didn't take as many pictures as on previous voyages. still, i liked how the picture above came out.
an evening out
jane and i were invited out to ben and jane's house last night, and we realised we hadn't been out together for such an event with just the two of us for ages. and it was jolly good, despite ben forgetting to bring my hot drink before we started playing a board game thus psyching me in to second place.
street embassadors delight
i love the street embassadors who live on the streets of london. this was an absolute classic example. it looks like some crazy 70s funksters front room , complete with psychedlic carpet, period furniture and glass drinks cabinet
but look closers and you realised it's just set up in a side street with a nice little sign inviting people to sit down and join them for dinner. pity i spotted when they were all out partying or something. but what a brilliant insider outside thing !

there was a short period of time where the design of microwaves and televisions collided. nowadays tellies look like posters and microwaves look like toasters. i think.

a work colleague gave a presentation yesterday. it was interesting, but i was slightly distracted by the various lines going on when he stood in front of the blinds. he kindly posed for me afterwards.
it's a pity i only had my compact camera otherwise i might have been tempted to use this for my course !

oh dear
at the risk of turning in to a normal blog, here's a story from our life. jane's car broke down on the way back home yesterday and i drove out to meet them so she and the girls could go home in my car. before they went we i walked up to a nearby garage and got some food to eat whilst i was waiting. unfortunately i left my sandwich on the counter, which was a shame.
anyway, i sat in the boot for half an hour or so until the breakdown man turned up. he asked me to open the bonnet and i fiddled about for a few minutes looking for the pully thing, before re-emerging and explaining that i was actually quite rubbish at cars, and would he mind doing it. he pulled a lever directly in front of where i was sitting and opened the bonnet.
he looked at the car then quickly disconnected battery as he feared the car might set itself on fire ! perhaps sitting in the boot wasn't the best plan. the car was loaded on to his van and plopped outside our house where it rests to this day (which is the same day as yesterday since this will be published tomorrow).
so there we go. an actual story from the funkypancake household.

i took the day off work yesterday to spend the day taking photos of things for my course. this was the first thing(s) i tried to take a picture of as it's meant to show the word 'black'. but i don't think it does. so i got a bit disillusioned and before I knew it the day was gone. ho hum.
even though they didn't meet the brief (at least i don't think they do) they are fairly ok-ish photos i think. the earphones look a bit sinister in some of the pictures.
