our good friends dave and em came for dinner last night.  they were our first guests this year due to our domestic reshaping, which is finally nearing an end.

080530_850_img_8751.jpg

it was great to catch up and also to play articulate which is a game i'd forgotten all about

if i could take this picture again i'd use a larger aperture to throw the distracting background out of focus.  just so you know.

080527_350d_img_5854.jpg

this dog is pink

080527_350d_img_5855.jpg

and 4 miles later there was an invisible white dog

080527_350d_img_5938.jpg

080527_350d_img_5936.jpg

no need for the 'to the' in this sign, which is perhaps why they put them small.  you know.  as a compromise.

080528_850_img_8695.jpg

080527_350d_img_5934.jpg

kezia said this sign must mean elderly people are people over 30 years old.  but she also told me people put cucumbers on their eyes so they look like people with cucumber eyes, so i don't believe everything she says.  so i suggest you don't either.

080527_850_img_8672.jpg

i found a jethro tull album to listen to whilst blogging this evening (Songs from the Wood).  i'm considering reinventing myself as a pixie.

080527_350d_img_5853.jpg

i had the day off yesterday and it was back to the thames path after a couple of months off due to construction/destruction and illness.  we were all fighting fit (and nearly builder-free) so our short reintroductory 4 mile walk from wallingford to moulsford

080527_350d_img_5851.jpg

here was the first view of the thames as we crossed the bridge in wallingford

080527_350d_img_5856.jpg

what do you do if you haven't got any signs with the arrows pointing the right way ?  turn one of the other ones sideways obviously.

080527_350d_img_5866.jpg

suckling calf.  it's their milk after all

080527_350d_img_5888.jpg

we passed fairmile hospital, which is now inmate less. it used to be owned by the Berkshire Mental Health Trust and now looks set for regeneration

080527_350d_img_5889.jpg

there was lots of nature on this stretch.  much of it stingy nettles unfortunately.

080527_350d_img_5896.jpg

and lovely flat water (notice the woman at the front and man at the back of this boat - togetherness)

080527_850_img_8670.jpg

at moulsford we stopped at the Beetle and Wedge pub which was a very posh restaurant, but slightly less inviting for a post walk drink.  but the view and drinks were still very welcome.

080527_850_img_8666.jpg

080520_350d_img_5252.jpg

probably quite an easy one for londoners, but can anyone guess the building ?

080520_350d_img_5165.jpg

080520_850_img_8470.jpg

all that in something the size of a mains plug.  amazing.

080526_850_img_8656.jpg

esther, kezia and I went on the Henley Arts Trail yesterday.  I didn't take too many photos as it was too wet, and people's art is their copyrights etc.

080526_850_img_8655.jpg

it really was a great day out.  it was fascinating to see the different types of artists and see their studios.  everyone was so nice and jolly.

080526_850_img_8657.jpg

so, all in all, another great bank holiday weekend activity !

080525_350d_img_5841.jpg

080525_350d_img_5842.jpg

scoring minimal point for effort, but full points for comedy.

080525_350d_img_5822.jpg

080525_350d_img_5817.jpg

we're leaving glove find season, which is a shame. but summer is still not quite here so there's still a few out there to be found.

080525_350d_img_5752.jpg

today (bank holiday monday) and yesterday are the biannual Sonning Scarecrow Trail.  As usual there was a fantastic number of excellent scarecrows (75+ i think) in this pretty village by the Thames.

080525_350d_img_5781.jpg

this year we decided to give marks out of 10 on our map to help us choose our favourite.  Kezia was in charge of numbers.

080525_350d_img_5778.jpg

i liked these ones playing tennis above the street

080525_350d_img_5774.jpg

you can see some of the rather posh sonning houses on these pictures

080525_350d_img_5776.jpg

it was also great to see some popular and so not so popular characters appearing in the trail.  such as the excellent mighty boosh

080525_350d_img_5747.jpg

Esther made me do some impressions of the Moon and Harrison which amused her, confused kezia, and worried the locals.

080525_350d_img_5770.jpg

the same happened when we found cartman.

080525_350d_img_5756.jpg

there was also a healthy amount of death and destruction, whether sharks eating limbs (very popular) or Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse in rehab.

080525_350d_img_5791.jpg

or how about this drunked whitch witch has crashed in to a tree

080525_350d_img_5799.jpg

or this canon being fired from a canon

080525_350d_img_5809.jpg

perhaps most scary of all was iggle piggle, seen here with the lady who was going in to the house.  i wonder if that's actually iggle piggle's wife, and they just happen to live here in real life ?

080525_350d_img_5834.jpg

anyway, another great afternoon.  if you're reading this on monday morning and can get to sonning before 5pm then i highly recommend it !

070225_850_img_1005.jpg

080524_850_img_8644.jpg

these animals are going to get a complex.

080524_850_img_8639.jpg

080524_350d_img_5699.jpg

bother in law kev has been tagged.  he looks proud of it here, but the reality will catch up with him soon.

080524_350d_img_5709.jpg

he found himself stuck behind the bars in the don't go in there place

080524_350d_img_5712.jpg

and ended up in a bare cell.

080524_350d_img_5714.jpg

let that be a warning to you all.

(thanks to bother in law kev for not being too bothered when i take his photo!)

there's a madly busy road outside my office and it looks like this power ranger failed to make it to the other side.  just shows to go.

080522_850_img_8611.jpg

080522_850_img_8598.jpg

tate modern is getting ready for an exciting weekend of long weekend activities.  looks like a lorra lorra fun.

080522_850_img_8595.jpg

we'll not be going unfortunately, but you should.  you know, if you're in the area.

080522_850_img_8599.jpg

080523_350d_img_5502.jpg

the weekend holiday began with a party for jane's dad (referred to as Party).  this is his grandson (my nephew) Thomas and not Party doing a cart wheel.

080523_350d_img_5565.jpg

here is bother-in-law kev and party
080523_350d_img_5546.jpg

this is a confusing sign

080517_850_img_8417.jpg

it's been a fairly rural week on funkypancake.  if those tree droppings were from a beech tree i'd have called it beech combing, but they are probably not so i didn't.

080520_850_img_8517.jpg

i bumped in to famous artist Roger Molloy in Brick Lane selling his wares. he's a chap who is living his art and doing things properly, making ends meet in a pay as you go kind of way.  we had a quick chat, i bought one of his pictures and we went our separate ways.  well, i did.  he stood where he was and continued his activities.  what a nice chap.

i conversated with the guard, but he was none the wiser about the plug.  in fact he seemed quite disturbed by it.  i left him deep in thought.

regular commenter Vin sent me these photos of a fantastic passport photo find.  he also sent me the actual photo which i've put in my found photos tin.

vin foundpic 009a.jpg

in due course i'll add it to my davescollections website, but i'm frightened to do that at present  as it may not survive being updated due to the same problems i had with funkypancake

080517_850_img_8452.jpg

080517_850_img_8382.jpg

these toilets had an area which was cordoned off.  it was quite a posh place so i suspect that it was the VIPee area.
