After breakfast we said goodbye to Binky and family and headed back to Reading via Avebury.
I’ve been enjoying finding bits of history all over the place and have so far seen things which cover the timespan back 2000 years. Today’s expedition took us to places which have been around 5,500 years which is just too immense to comprehend.
Avebury henge and stone circles were built during the neolithic period (2850 – 2220 BC) and is the largest stone circle in Britain. We walked from their along the West Kennet Avenue (an avenue with giant stones either side) to the West Kennet Long Barrow which was built around 3650 BC.
The walk took us a couple of hours and the weather was beautiful (though very hot).
We got to Jane’s parents in time for afternoon tea, and then this evening i’ve been out with my friend Big Eye Tony, and Jane and family have been Skyping Binky.
