we skipped church and went to waiheke island to look at the sculpture trail today
it’s only on for a few days each year and this is the middle weekend.
it was a bit rainy when we left auckland and despite a little bit of drizzle early on it soon ended up being a cloudy but nice (and very warm) day
esther only had to protect herself from the rain for a short while
there were some mini-planetariums with proper constellations. care to guess what the one below is?
most of the sculptures were big installations like this giant sean connery selfie
my favourite (also kezia’s and annica’s) was this piece which consisted of lots of mirrors in a field.
it looked great from far away, but was really interesting up close too.
it was surprisingly effective.
and mind bending all at once!
the boat trip back was a smoother than the way there because we were on a bigger boat!
everyone is back to school tomorrow so this evening has been about organisation!

Hi Dave, glad it’s nice and warm for you – it’s pretty chully here with the odd snow shower. At risk of making an idiot of myself I think the constellation is The Plough, part of Ursa Major, the Great Bear. Mind you, I think it might more appropriately be called The Saucepan with the Bent Handle as that’s what it looks like. I knew my 60 year old copy of “I-spy stars and planets” would come on useful one day! Hope all’s well.
Good guess Alan. The bucket said Crux which is the southern cross (appears on both nz and Australian flags). Might have different names/configurations elsewhere. And I may have chosen a picture from the wrong bucket (grommit)!
Yes, idiot status confirmed! Or maybe it’s changed shape since I bought my I-Spy book. Have looked again and can see the error of my ways.
not an idiot Alan ! i wouldn’t have had a clue if it wasn’t written on the bucket 🙂
