well, the good news is it’s looks like the weather is calming down, at least up here in Auckland. i’ve quite enjoyed the winds actually. it feels like proper weather.
so, the big news of the day is that esther has got to wear glasses for reading the board at school. she’s secretly quite pleased i think as she’s chosen a nice pair
this evening they’ve all been to a school play at a friend’s school which was jolly good. and jane spent the day doing preparation work for going back to school as we’re running out of time before we head off on holiday on saturday morning for the week.
here’s the pub up the hill. coming along nicely isn’t it.
i gave a presentation at work today which went down very well so i was pleased about that. the rest of the day was manically busy and as soon as i got home i had a work call to the UK. be good to have a break !
i’ll leave you with these two pictures of a mini garage near my office. i took quite a few pictures trying to get one without cars in it. as soon as i too the photo below i realised if i’d waited half a second i’d have got this old yellow mini in front of the new mini garage. oh well

looks like some people really do drive upside down on the other side of the world.
Hi Jane and Dave! Just back from the Music Group – remember it? Your occasional references to “Flat White” reminded me of what was just about the first conversation I ever had in the S. hemisphere. Having flown from London to Sydney via Los Angeles (37 hours!), I then had a couple of hours to hang around in Sydney Airport departure lounge waiting for a flight to Brisbane. I was really thirsty, so made my way to a small coffee kiosk where the conversation went something as follows;
Me (a Pommie). “Ahem, er, Could I have a coffee please?”
He (archetypal Aussie). “Yeah, sure Mate, whaddya want?”
Me. “Er, a coffee please.”
He. “No problem, Mate, whaddya want?”
Me. (thinking perhaps he was deaf)”Er, a coffee, white”
He. “If you’ll excuse me asking, Mate; you a Pommie by any chance?”
Me. “Er, yes, just arrived”
He. “Oh, Geez Mate, a Pom eh? I understand your problem now! What I reckon you want is a Flat White. ‘ere, I’ll give yer’ one, no problem. Great to meet yer, Mate, have a great time.”
And that was my introduction to Oz! Brilliant! Love to all, Pommie Alan
excellent Alan !
