kezia and i had a dad and daughter day in london yesterday. we started with pain au chocolats in paddington station, then went to london bridge, walked down through borough market, spent a couple of hours in tate modern, then went to this.
My experience of holland has always been good, and this was no exception. nice cheese (made backwards of course). And plenty of clog related activities.
kezia and i danced like loons at the silent disco with music played by this chap (note the suite hanger). he too was a purveyor of fine quality cheese
the slides have gone - so what's next ?
i've got a number of days off up to the end of June and i'm trying to think of some funkpancake-esque things to do. perhaps i'll have 'Urban One Day Adventures' which might involve me wandering around somewhere taking pictures.
London is the obvious place to go as that's quite good for photos. Russell's done a few cool things here.
i may not bother, but i might not not.
Also, next Thursday i've got a full day in Edinburgh for site-seeing fun, so any specifics for there would be gratefully received !
leave ideas in the comments or drop me an email blog@funkypancake.com
oh, and this picture was taken by me lying slumped down a little hill thing and turned upsway down
i saw this giant foot floating around trafalgar square on the way to a reception at 11 Downing Street (nice name dropping hey?). Number 11 is where Tony Blair lives (because he did a house swap (and job swap) with Gordon Brown.
when the formal part of the event finished, i had to rush back out of downing street to a meeting at church and so i went without the free house of commons wine, and the free pint of beer given away with the london evening newspaper to celebrate saint george's day (they know us English too wel).
it turns out i missed this fantastic record attempt in trafalgar square which i'd have seen if i'd done more adventuring before. but i did get to go to downing street and the refreshments at the church meeting were mighty fine.
a funny old day, which could have been slightly funnier. but that's most days isn't it ?

this is the lovely swinford bridge which is a toll bridge (cost 5pence and the owners don't pay tax due to a deal with King George III !)
anyway, we were back to the thames path yesterday and this stretch was the 8 miles between bablock hythe to godstow. we came across this sign at the point where we thought we were halfway (but obviously weren't!)

here are jane's parents and the others behind

here's the A34 from underneath (not quite as attracted as swinford bridge)

and this is where we ended up
our friend stephen loves this tree, but doesn't know what it is. can anyone help ?
here's some close ups of the blossom which might help. drop me an email or leave a comment if you know !
possibly wendy richards
As a special treat to you i've sifted through the funkypancake archives and chosen some choice photos from each month to add to my funkypancake flickr page. i'll attempt to update this each month with the best photos.
if you've got a flickr account i'd be delighted to add you as a contact - do the online thing (possibly here if you are logged in).
we had a day out at Waddesdon Manor yesterday and it was very nice. whilst there we remembered that this was the place where esther learnt to walk (and she can still remember how to do it so it's obviously a good place to learn)
definitely worth a visit if you are in the area
how fantastic is this place ? it's rhossili beach and you really should visit (especially during a heatwave!)
one of my colleagues said the best way to get to our office near St Catherine'd dock was by using the Thames Clipper. i caught it from Savoy Pier (which is a short walk from Embankment,
which is on the Bakerloo line from Paddington), and it was fantastic. much better than the tube and comparable speed wise
is this really a disco for the elderly ?
it's been a few months since we walked any of the thames path, mostly because of the madness of the wet winter meant it probably wouldn't have been safe. on saturday we headed back to newbridge to pick up the path where we left it last October
usual suspects outside the pub (which we went back to at the end for cheesy chips)
here's a footbridge over the thames where there used to be a weird
and here's the thames looking nice
and here we are at the finish - ferryman's point at Bablock Hythe
this was a relatively short stretch - about 4 miles - but kezia managed to walk all of it herself without being carried or dragged (or moaning)
