as kiwi as
a bbq at the beach in summer on a hot day under a pohutakawa tree. it doesn't get much more kiwi than that.
trees come down
it's been quite windy here of late
big winds bring no friends. especially if you are a tree. the one above was a little teeny tree which probably fell over because someone tripped on it.
and this one clonked to the ground next to me as i walked down the street. that could have had my eye out.

dangly fig tree
strange fig tree dangly airbourne roots. excellent.
camouflage leaf
what a brilliant idea - camouflaged leaves so they blend in with their surroundings.
small silver tree and shells
poor picture i'm afraid, but this is a load of crushed shells and a teeny weeny metal tree in the dirt in downtown auckland.
my favourite tree
i love this tree. i pass it most days, although it's dark when i go by at this time of year (shorted day soon though so visibility should start to improve at some point)

nut
it's interesting to see what happens to the tree here in new zealand as the seasons progress. we arrived at the beginning of spring so we've seen all sorts of stuff start to happen.
these things remind me of similar nut-jobs that were around in london. no idea what they were called either.
cabbage tree
i miss big british trees. but i'm beginning to love the native versions. like this comedically named 'cabbage tree'

the conker nut tree
do you know why conker trees are called horse chestnuts ?
wel, it's apparently to do with the little horse shoe patterns that appear on the branches
i never knew that. click on the pictures above for a closer look
and did you also know that loads of british conker trees are croaking it due to some miserable moths ? that's not a myth.

trees generally grow out of the ground, so the concept of low trees shouldn't be such a rare thing

these trees are outside buckingham palace. they seem to have replaced the bark with a wooden fence. nice idea. real trees don't look wooden enough.

this was the view esther and i saw when we turned round after finding a geocache. quite nice actually.

one minute this man was walking along with some young people. the next he ran off to the side and dangled from this tree. people can't help themselves can they.

bernard sent me this picture of a thermometer in a bush (and his neice's daughters)
here is a close up of the thermometer in the bush. Bernard wondered whether it was an early warning system for burning bushes which would make sense.
