nicknames
nicknames are funny things. i never had a nickname given to me at school so i had to make my own up. Getting them accepted by my peers required a choice of name which would capture their imagination.
At School:
Dishcloth Dave
a derivation of 'Dishy Dave' which i would never get away with in a single sex school
Torchon David
the french version said in a french accent
At University:
SpoonChicken
I had a pet wooden spoon and loved chickens
Mr ScragEnd
i used to hang out with tramps at soup kitchens etc - they were often better dressed than me
Goth phase (15-18yrs old):
Occasionally I did get third party nicknames such as little goth during my goth stage. but then you have to expect to be called silly names if you dress up in comedy cloths.

So there we are. i'm sure there were others nicknames i forgot and i'm sure Brother Edd will remember.
You would have been 16-17 in that photo. It was after yor GCSE's I think. I remember loading up a old BBCB computer game and just before it said Hacked by DishCloth Dave. It was on repeat filling the whole screen.
I cannot remember any other nick names for you. What happened to all those goths you hung out with. I believe that i found some of the ladies quiet attractive.
I am sure I've got some more embarassing pictures somewhere.
I actually bumped into Lizzie last Christmas. Or rather Dr Elisabeth Wadge, who now works for Newnham College Cambridge in money raising.

You really have to get a life! Making up nicknames for yourself speaks volumes about your insecurities and your overeaching attempts to be accepted. C'mon. Just be who you are. You'll be much more comfortable there.
thanks steve. the school nicknames were more self-protection than insecurities i think - i thought of something suitably strange for myself so no-one else came up with anything worse. but 11-18 is a tricky time in anyone's life !
and the uni-names were linked to the radio shows i did.
i don't have any nickname now - at least not that i'm aware of !
