Project 38 – measuring the intensity of light

The idea of this project is to take a picture of the same thing throughout the day and see how the brightness varies.  Of course this is really tricky in the UK at least as our weather is so variable (especially at this time of year).  So you can’t always compare directly between photos even taken within short time proximity to each other.

however, the theory is, that if you keep all other things consistent (shutter speed / ISO sensitivity) then you should be able to see the variance throughout the day by looking at the camera’s automatic aperture setting.

For a long time i walked to work between 7.30am and 8am.  As winter came i’d find that i needed to use an every higher ISO setting on my compact camera, until at that time of the morning it was actually dark and i’d be forced to brace my camera as it was no longer to handhold pictures even with the highest ISO settings.
