way too tight, but way too cool to chuck away. not sure if i ever actually wore them. definitely gone in the pile marked 'take'

nearly posted this with a typo in the title which would have been rather less family friendly than your usual funkypancake fayre.

i love this sign.  not entirely sure what it means.  but it's a great.

i haven't mentioned my military poncho for a while, but it's still an essential part of my wet weather wardrobe.

080814_u20d_p8140082.jpg

for example, here's a picture (taken by jane's mum) of jane and i eating our picnic in the rain on an island in wales

080814_u20d_p8140069.jpg

and here we are slightly before a horrendous rain storm turned up on a boat.  everyone laughed at me in my poncho, but i had my camera bag on my knee hence the strange look.

080814_u20d_p8140068.jpg

when the rain storm came everyone got absolutely soaked, but i stayed dry (except my backside which got a soaking from the seat).  i got asked a number of times during the day where i'd got my poncho from as the once scoffers had become converts.

so there you are folks.  a military poncho update.  shown here is my lightweight model, ideal for summer showers.  the real heavy duty one is reserved for guaranteed rainy days.

two charity shops next door to each other both had signs with the word trendy on them.

is the rail or the clothes that are trendy ?
070731_850_img_4036.jpg

young and trendy (better than vanilla trendy)

070731_850_img_4035.jpg

is this a today only, or a constantly updating 'today is today' type sign ?

070619_850_img_3314.jpg

and who voted this london's best budget shop ? wasn't me. i was just looking for a plain t-shirt and found only logo'd ones.

why would a parker be illegal ? do the fashion police now have power of confiscation ?

DSC07036.jpg

and today i learnt that a parka isn't spelt parker.

here is jane wearing my favourite piece of clothing. there's NOTHING like this coat for keeping the rain out of you and your backpack bag. or for sitting on at a picnic.

i love my military poncho.

king sized:

regular reader Vin spotted this strange phenominuum in Acton yesterday. it's a tie attached to a car. or perhaps it's a road kill's tie and the poor victim is stuck up there under the bonnet (or 'hood' if you are phoning the site from the New World)

it reminds me of those funny anti-static rubber dangling things that were popular on cars in the late 70s. did they ever work ?

we need to work together to find a car with such a device on the road in these modern times. if you see one, take a photo and email it to me

brother-in-law kev sent me this picture of a sign:
kev_image_00064.jpg

and it reminded me of this which i saw on the beach in norfolk:

is it a flag ? no. it's some pants:

i thought piece of wripped cigarette packet was a little teeny weeny t-shirt at first. but it wasn't.

i've never really thought about ponchos. perhaps i should have.

i quite liked these matching ponchos which esther and kezia received from their grandma on christmas day. kezia misheard what they were called and ran around telling everyone she had a 'puncture'.

our neice sarah had been wearing a poncho the day before which prompted kezia to shout out "baby sarah's got a puncture hasn't she ?" rather randomly during a meal !

and here is baby sarah (photo taken by esther):

my boots were very dirty. so i phoned the hotel reception and got them to clean them (a rare complementary service in the pay-for-everything hotel).

they've done a great job !

it's a parking meter with a nice pink scarf.

i think there's a reason this pair of trousers might be £1.

it's a flare.

DSC02621.jpg

DSC03531.JPG

i'm a man so don't understand too much about these things. i'm aware of 'pairs' of trousers, but i didn't realise that a bra was a 'set'.

Or maybe you get three different sizes all in one bag ? it's a man-mystery. which is fine by me.

and look how cheap these nightwear is ! i love a bargain. pity the shop was closed when i walked past it at 7.45 this morning.

how posh is this ? it's a very small kid's chasmere sweater lost in the street.

DSC03326.jpg DSC03327.jpg

this boot was at oxford street last night. you can see Regent Street and a bus going by. the bus is stationary. unlike regent street which is heading down towards the river. by now it will be flushed out to sea with a million other shopping streets.

probably.

i've been in two places in the last few days where the wearing of floatation devices was a possibility. in both cases i've considered putting my life jacket on prior to an emergency so as to be ready in case the unlikely event happened.

jane, my wife, suggested this might cause panic on both the airplane and touristy canal boat so i left them tightly packed away for their own safety under my seat.

it seems community police(wo)men have opted for the safe approach. here are two with their life jackets round their backs. they were also quite reflective of my camera flash.

DSC04473.jpg

paper hats are a stupid idea. especially these sort which is kind of like a spiral on your head.

they were very popular in the 70s. i hope they aren't making a revival.

there were loads of school kids wearing them outside Shakespeare's Globe Theatre today. not all the hats survived.

my christmas shoes fell apart over the weekend. someone kindly gave me an elastic band, but they are sadly beyond repair.

they had a good life and i don't want people to shed any tears. these things happen.

it's better for them to end like this, whilst they were still in active service, rather than for them to fester in a cupboard and finally be thrown in the bin.

i throw this shoe away, and i'll donate the still good left shoe to a charity shop.
