the day after they declared a drought it rained like a mad thing for a week (and looks like for another week).  here's an umbrella collection at work looking like a mushroom farm.  well, a bit.

it's a street ambassador under an umbrella.  much more waterproof than a cardboard box

no sooner had we gone across the welsh border and we knew this was going to be a  wet holiday.  it was also at this point i realised that my photos weren't going to reveal the extent of the rain, so you'll mostly just have to take my word for it.

here is a bin with an abandoned brolly.  possibly dumped there by someone leaving the country.

various people braved the elements to walk their soggy dogs.

wind and rain go hand in hand, yet the umberolly rarely seems up to the job.  here are but two which failed the road test.

there were a lot of umbrellas abandoned in belfast, so there were.

the irish people i met were proud of their drizzly windy weather so i assume these brollies were abandoned with glee

the weather recently has been fantastic.  this abandoned umbrella in the sun sums it up nicely like.

can you see it ?

last monday was a rainy and windy day in london. as i walked past this human statue the wind blew and her umbrella flipped inside out. she was doing her best to not fall off her box ! i grabbed a photo as i went back, but it doesn't really depict the scene properly. oh well.

umbrella nearly down a hole defying the laws of gravity.

that happens sometimes with umbrellas.

the coupe umbrella is brilliant for the british summer where you need shelter on minute but want to enjoy the sun the next

has this person been stabbed by the wrong end of an arrow ? or are they lying down struggling to put up their umbrella ?

Big Nose Ugly Guy (occasional commenter, long time reader and new New Zealand liver) sent me these photos.

her writes: "Not sure if the following too obscure but I thought I'd drop you these pics as the scene struck me as FP-ish, given the involvement of cones, an umbrella, a colour copier toner spill and hazard tape. The Business Support lady who placed the umbrella said it was to 'stop the toner turning to ink'. Whether she anticipated a roof leak or a sprinkler test I'm not sure. "

Nothing is too obscure for funkypancake. and if it was i'd include it anyway !

a lovely chap walked round the pond at tintinhull gardens so the girls could draw him (and i could take some photos!). Every photographer should carry an umbrella like this with him (or take someone along to hold it on their behalf)

and here they are admiring the garden

i spotted this umbrella shoved over a wall behind some gold railings. i think it looks really nice but i couldn't decide which of these two pictures i liked best

if you look carefully you can see a red umbrella trapped in an umbrella trapped. the phone box has come along to rescue him. (or perhaps he set the trap ?)

it's been raining a lot recently.

here's a mystery. lettuce leaves and an umbrella. but why ?

i asked jane and she said "obvious. it was raining lettuce leaves".

i honestly hadn't thought that might be the reason. what other explanations are there ?

what IS going on with the british weather ? quite bonkers at the moment. even by our standards.

you can tell summer is finally here.

what goes in the bin down but can't go out the bin up ?

DSC00783.jpg

here is an umbrella adapted for the summer months. in theory, no rain so no need for any material.

not ideal for british summers i admit.

handle, shelter and cover all seperated.
