where's your other eye ?  a tourist nicked it.  that can happen.

scary beasts

090221_350d_img_4666.jpg

we went geocaching yesterday in a wood.  we got a bit lost (missed a footpath turning), but found 6/9 and saw some great things.  like this weird metal statue (click on the picture to see the word reflected in its globe).

i was going to just post the picture above, but then i realised i could make another pop pun title by including a few more.  or perhaps i should have put none up and then the question would have been more relevant.  as it is, it answers itself.  oh well.

when out geocaching on sunday we passed an amazing house which had a garden full of giant statues.  here's one

080113_350d_img_0558.jpg

071130_850_img_5947.jpg

there was a geocache hidden in a light fitting by this little chap.

070901_350d_img_3579.jpg

we've all seen that doctor who episode and know what can happen

070918_850_img_5090.jpg

i walked past this yesterday and noticed she's been replaced with a plastic 80s disaster which is a shame.  this photo was from september but i never got round to posting it.

the strange things on her belly are to stop pigeons landing on it.  works for beer bellies too apparently.

i went in search of genuine communist era Poland when i was in Warsaw. most of it is being rebuilt like it was hundreds of years ago, so finding something obviously from the last 50 years (other than the stuff which has been build in the last 10 years) is tricky.

070901_350d_img_3525.jpg 070901_350d_img_3542.jpg

these statues are by a square which was built to house political rallies. you can see the scale of them in the top picture (there's a chap walking by). nowadays they are just ignored. they probably were back in the day too though !

i'm not sure which of these two photos i like best - what do you think ?

070724_350d_img_1533.jpg

Sky colour thanks to my polarising filter. worked quite well i think

070724_350d_img_1510.jpg

there are a load of 10 foot high gibson guitars on the southbank near city hall and the tower of london (and tower bridge). they are very smart. go and see them

070724_350d_img_1513.jpg 070724_350d_img_1520.jpg
the guitar in the cage is signed by bruce dickinson - obviously too dangerous to leave roaming like the others

they are ten feet tall
070724_350d_img_1514.jpg

the photo at the top was an attempt to use fill-in flash with a teeny weeny aperture to get the sun effect. not sure if it worked. i'd forgotten my remote trigger otherwise i could have had even more fun

these statues stand each side of our church door, both looking straight ahead.

so they never look like this:

i've reported on the mannequin pis a number of times, but i can't remember him ever having a fancy window display showing a replica of himself all lit up next to him. he's just becoming so touristy.

old nelson has been repaired and was unveiled yesterday. i didn't realise this at the time, but i managed to capture the workmen taking off the scaffolding. for a closer view (from the other side) see here.

i thought of a great title for this picture, but decided i couldn't really put it on the site as i think it might be a bit rude (though in fact the word itself is not that rude). have a think, then click this link for an explanation (i can only apologise).

i do like the picture though.

this statue picture looked a bit boring so i negatived it and it now looks a bit fancier.

i overheard someone say to their frightened (and if i'm honest frightening) child "how many times do i have to tell you, that is NOT the bogeyman, it's Humpty Dumpty".

nice low hedges:

eery statues:

and some nice high hedges:

and nice topiary:

here is a stormy weather picture inverted. as usual you can click it for a big version, or there a slightly zoomeder in one here

so how does london compete with a mannequin pis belgian weeing statue ? With a Weee man of course.

there's more info here and here

it's right by mayor ken's place. the weeeman doesn't look too pleased about ken's place though

interestingly this heap of pointlessness is in exactly the same place as blaine-in-a-box was hanging out 18ish months ago

he's only around in london until the 27th May so be quick !

It's the mannequin pis again

DSC09333.jpg

why does this chap look so sad ? it's because he can't reach the pie by his feet.

the famous belgian statue. nearby was one of those comedy tourist things where you can pop your head through for a comedy photo opportunity.

a few streets away is the girl version. not quite as dignified as the small chap:
