there are a number of mannequins on the main shopping drag in downtown auckland which appear to be being garrotted by cheese wire. shame
they didn't seem bothered. but then mannequins rarely do.

i've shown you this shop window before. i love it as it's absolutely packed with things and they've scrawled the names of the products on the outside of the windows with nice words. like lovely crockery
as i went past the other day i noticed they've started selling anti virus which i assume is a computer thing. and they now think their paper parasols are cool.

chocolate fish in the chocolate drink
like a man in a room unable to put a teacosey on his head, a man on his own with a chocolate fish and a bowl of hot chocolate can't help but seeing if the chocolate covered marshmallow fish will balance on the frothy top
it didn't balance, but once it had sunk it started to melt and within 2 minutes was a gorgeous slippery fish which was well worth catching and swallowing in one.

i don't see so many celebrities here. although i might do, it's just i don't recognise them. i'd recognise rhys darby though. this is a window display designed by the man rather than him himself.
simon the pie cake man
here's simon looking very smart. he made a cake for the office today as he lost the competition to guess the birth date and weight of a colleague's wife's baby.
they take their punishments serious here in new zealand. great cake though !

i love this tree. i pass it most days, although it's dark when i go by at this time of year (shorted day soon though so visibility should start to improve at some point)

a trip to the museum
we went to the local museum yesterday and it was fab in a rather disturbing way
in amongst the dead stuff they had some living stuff which sat really still and smiled
but there was plenty of disturbing beasty stuff

friday was a noisey day at work
i fear we're not yet over the worse
retro bowling
we went to a fantastically retro bowling alley today. apparently this is the more modern one of our two nearest. i'm sure i remember this machine from trips bowling in nottingham from when i was a lad
the shoes certainly looked like they've seen a few years of action
and there were plaques all over the place celebrating big achievements on the different lanes. this one showed the first time someone had scored over 300 on lanes 15 and 16.
the machines looked modern in a retro calculator sort of way
you could image people playing the original space invaders game in the background loving all the new technology
and the cafe was great too
and finally there was a lovely universal greeting sign as we came in. all absolutely lovely and we shall be back for more of the same next month !

this was a low sign aimed at children. although they'd have to be pretty good at reading understand it. looks like some of the puppies and kittens have been converted in to boots in the background there.
