i went to the marvellous breakfast club last friday thanks to russell reminding me it was on. jolly good chat, although i feared for retinas sitting opposite these three t-shirts and the yellow wall.
it's interest to note your modern fashionable man has wires coming out of his shoulders.

another village fete
yesterday we went to another village fete. this was one another dramatic one with people flying in the air (note the emergency ambulance in the background)
there was blatant disregard for the rules by this lady or middling years who was ignoring the instructions that this was for boys aged 3-10 years only
clouds were gathering but the rain didn't drop this time
and how's this for a classic tombola prize. it's not quite a goldfish, but it is a luxury roller blind. you knew it was going to be a winning stall when they proclaim that every number is a winner !
wargrave festival
yesterday was wargrave festival
we ended up sitting for nearly an hour in the road in wargrave as we waited for very late procession to come through the village.
it was worth the wait though to see the medieval themed procession
they even had medieval bagpipers
this car was the least well dressed thing in the parade. a cardboard cut out horse head stuck on a window screen does not make a horse. although it was enough to get their advert on this blog
we even managed to find some of the props abandoned behind the local train station

church picnic (what a pavlova)
we had a great church picnic yesterday. there's something incredibly special about just hanging out with other christians whilst eating burgers and hot dogs. And tasty desserts

farthers day
i was greeted with some great cards and rosettes yesterday morning which i wore with pride throughout the day
a walk down the lane
this time of year is fantastic. everything is so green and grow-y. jane even climbed in to some stingy nettles to check a geocache for travelbugs. there were none.
earlier in the day we went ice skating with friends. i noted that ice skating is like a mini-example of parenting:
* you start by pretty much carrying your kids round the rink
* then they trust you and you go round hand in hand
* after a number of exhausting laps you start to let go
* eventually they go free and start zooming round on their own much faster than you do
* and finally, you fall over in a very dramatic way, and they laugh their heads off.

the new rules on passport photos are very exact and it's important you get your eyes at exactly the right part of the picture. but that's tricky if you are 7 years old and the seat doesn't go high enough.
kezia and i thought about this in advance (following a rather disastrous and expensive trip a few months back) so decided to take a cushion. but when we got there we realised we'd forgotten it.
we weren't going to be beaten so instead we popped in to the local supermarket and bought 4 rolls of environmentally friendly kitchen rolls. in their packets they were just the right height (when placed 2 on 2) for kezia to get her mug shot in comfort.
this was our first attempt with just one layer which wasn't enough. i didn't take a picture with the two layers as i was holding on to her so she didn't fall off !
strange dog sign
regular reader jenny sent me this remarkable dog sign. definitely worth clicking to see it in more detail. She asks what sort of dog it is. i've no idea - have you ?
30p per visit
it costs 30 pence to spend a penny these days. but i was impressed by 30p PER VISIT. what counts as a visit ? is there a time limit ? why no season tickets ? so many questions.
tesco shelves, back to the disaster
it was all looking so good for tesco in the reduced to clear section. but it's back to it's usual dumping ground. and there's even a load of carrier bags in there (which is more than can be said for the check out where they seem to be banned)

a work outing
i went on an excellent bike ride yesterday lunchtime in aid of general fitness and wellbeing. i'd forgotten it was a bit dangerous to take pictures whilst riding a bike, even if you are wearing a tabard. so here's a picture of us stationary at a lock.
i can confirm it's much better than writing regulatory documents. jolly good.
family sports day
jane's sister and family came to stay over the weekend and as has become traditional, we held a sports day. (the picture above shows the three legged race)
things warmed up with the cheerleaders doing their hoolah hooping
bother-in-law kev spent a while geting in to the zone and wasn't going to be moved by the pre-match frivolities
before we knew it the egg and spoon race was underway
the oldies showed the youngiest how it was done
it mostly seemed to be about the level of concentration
there were other games involving water, which eventually broke down in to a sponge water fight
bother-in-law (bil) kev threw himself (and his sponge) in to it
but ultimatly the excitement was too much for him
and he ended up with a soggy face (this looks quite impressive big so click for full fun)
people them moved on from sponges and simply started chucking water at each other
here kezia shows her airborn throwing technique whilst thomas recovers from a wetting from esther
as james decided it was time to sit somewhere a little drier.
finally we hung some doughnuts on a washing line which were to be eaten without touching
sarah's string was longer than the other's and it was dangling in the middle so she had the hardest challenge. i like how the blurred background on the picture above makes her look like she's breathing fire (a bit)
anyway, sarah stayed well in to the night after everyone else had finished trying to eat her doughnut. which she managed in the end.
so, all in all, big fun had by all

trolley stunts forbidden
i can get that you might try the first one (although why anyone would attach a TV aerial to a scooter and then sit on their TV i don't know).
but why would you try and balance one trolley on the shoulder of someone standing on another trolley ? i see on that second picture the lower trolley driver has lost his window wiper, although his wing mirror still seems ok.

isn't britain great. just look at the weather showing on the bbc website the other day. classic stuff.

old time chair-o-planes
you know, chair-o-planes. like they had in the olden days. before they even had planes. they used to fly chairs around the place. it was simply chairs flying through the sky. people were so glad when they invented airplanes. it made the whole flying thing a lot less windy.

this rose garden is usually really boring, but we finally managed to go when the roses were out !
fruit smelling balls
this sounded rather 'south park' but it did get me wondering why you'd want a fruit smelling ball. (and why 'smelling' is written so small-ly). perhaps it's to ofset the smell of stinky footballers feet ?

this poppy has sprung up in a crack in our driveway. well done it.

i was in charge of the plastic dibber thing and kezia was in charge of the string thing. between us we created this masterpiece.
the avro lancaster
according to the blurb in the program it was "an underpowered and singularly unsuccessful aircraft". classic british design therefore
there's only two in flying condition in the world, the other being in canada
this one did a couple of nice swoops over the local houses

we saw my mum yesterday afternoon and had a lovely time !
invisible correction
this place is in acton town i think. i walked past it on the way from chiswick to ealing broadway last week. i liked how they had altered the sign so you can't even see it had been changed.
i hope they used a humungous black marker pen for the job. it's a shame they didn't scrub the small print which says "estalished since 1958"

an outrageous spoon ratio
the latest spoon situation at the regulator. often the spoons are shared fairly equally between two saucers, but last time i went there was a huge imbalance. whatever happened to impartiality ?

do you see what they did here ? it's a good way of making sure no one ever gives the zoo a bad review AND it keeps the alligator fed
guerrilla outside soft furnishings
this has appeared at my local train station. the boring moldy bus stop has been decorated rather nicely by some curtain pelmetty type things and a nice soft cushion
