waitakere ranges regional park
it was cloudy when we arrived in auckland on sunday and it was even more cloudy yesterday
so, what better thing to do in the rain than visit your local rainforest
it's quite an amazing sight. not that we could see much of it
over the precipice all we could see was more clouds
but as we stood there, almost like a miracle of healing of our vision, the clouds softened
and for a few moments we could see more of the rainforest as it rolls down the mountain in to the sea
we'll definitely be going back here as it's quite amazing
and, like new zealand itself, you can read all about it in guide books (or in this case the visitors centre), but it's only when you throw yourself in to it in person that you get a feel for what it's really like
and we're impressed !
shame about the rain though !
why there's no one here
this is a giant automatic sign on the A4. it says;
"there will be no one on site on 15/04/09 due to a health and safety meeting"
i took the photo on the 15th when there was no one about. interesting i thought.
tesco hits new low
i'm always intrigued by the tesco junk shelf, but it hit a new low the other day
in amongst the mops and grime is an old french stick
billy butlin
i'm not sure if this is the actual billy butlin. if it is, it would explain everything.
what do christians like to watch at the cinema at easter
we're at spring harvest at the moment. it's always amusing to see how butlins changes to accomodate a large number of heaven-lovers descending on its campus. i don't know if they picked monsters vs aliens and the passion of christ as the film choices, or whether they are recommended religious viewing.
what actually caught my eye was the old 'odeon' sign up top which has not been quite replaced in a rebranding exercise. or should that be exorcise.
the seagulls love butlins
here's the view from our kitchen window at butlins. it's not luxury accommodation, but then we didn't come here to sit in the chalet (although i've been doing a fair bit of that). anyway, we're having a jolly good time thanks for asking. wish you were here.

6 years of funkypancake
yes, today funkypancake (the blog) is 6 years old. over that time i've done over 14 thousand and must have posted well over 20 thousand images. and you've left over 7 thousand comments.
thanks for all your fantastic support ! there could be some changes ahead, but i'll tell you about them if/when they happen.

jane and i went down to Bath yesterday to watch my panel being assessed for Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society, which i'm pleased to say i achieved.
afterwards we went and bought me a suite and some decent shoes. first time in about 20 years. it was a very painful experience
but an experience helped by consumption of a sally lunn lunch
