christmas is finally over
i saw two signs that christmas was properly over last week. a santa hat in a bin, and a branch less tree wandering naked in to the street.
we've still got 6 christmas cards stuck to a door in our house, so it's not quite all over for us yet

i was struck by this mysterious angle poise light up in a window in bath last week. he was watching me watching him

the great thing about this time of year is that it gets dark early so i've been able to grab some nice evening sunlight shots like these.

apparently this was the first free standing staircase. i can't confirm whether that was the case. but it's very fancy nevertheless

this chap is the internet. or at least that's what his head proclaimed.
he looked a bit worried when i took his photo, but when i said i loved his hat he was very pleased. and we left it at that.
perhaps he's one of those 'internet of people' that we used to hear about.

i had a day off work yesterday to go to Bath to watch some photos being assessed (not my own this time) which was really interested. on the way i saw this dummy which i took to be a positive sign !

this man appeared to be standing on the top of a christmas tree in bath yesterday. can you work out what's going on here ?
bt tower
i was lucky enough to have another meeting in BT Tower yesterday including a nice trip up to the top. i'll post some views of london when i feel a bit better (cronky flu-head at the moment - not real flu though)

hoorah for random doorbells. nothing sums up the mix of people within these flats better than their different approaches to doorbells. brilliant stuff

lots of salt and vinegar crisps
i love abandoned trollies. mostly i find them outside supermarkets, but this one was a good one inside tescos. it contains mostly single bags of salt and vinegar crisps (chips for you new world-ists). plus an odd alien and some cakes.
the new dyson ?
this new dyson model looks more like a dustbin than the older ones, but i guess that's part of the circulation vortex. still got the classic sweeping attachment hose thingy though.
the ones that no one likes
this sweet container has been at work for weeks. seems no one likes these particular coloured ones (although i note there are a couple of rogue yellow ones left)
slow portrait 7 - brad
this slow portrait is brad. he's an actor, so is good at this kind of thing. it was a it weird though as although i've 'known' him for years through the blog this was the first time we'd met in real life when he was over for work. we chatted like old chums for an hour then i sprung this on him. and we both had to sit still not talking to each other for 4 minutes.
brad said afterwards he'd done three quite small, but deliberate things during his 4 minutes. can you work out what they are ? (i'm not sure whether the quality of the video shows them up or not - you'll have to see for yourself!)

i do like the way they've saved a letter in the word car park top right. it's that sort of frugalness which will get them through this time of financial worryment

our local supermarket had some serious refrigeration difficulties resulting in a lot of empty shelves
dick turpin
we did a few geocaches in Sonning yesterday. one revealed that Dick Turpin's Aunt lived in this house, and back in its day it had a secret underground horse stable for black bess to pop down in to whilst mr turpin popped in the front door, and later escaped out the backdoor, across the thames bridge and lie low in Oxfordshire.

this bird had dropped out of a tree and was lying on the ground quite stiff. but still looking very beautiful. i resisted the urge to wear it as a brooch and just took a photo instead.

slow portrait 6 - julia
This time it's the lovely julia. my camera was a bit confused by the bright background, so the quality (of filming) is not up to the usual 'high' quality!
don't forget to watch for the full 4 minutes to appreciate the slowness of a proper slow portrait.

a photo shop (snappy snaps i think) has closed down this branch and was dumping lots of interesting stuff in to a skip. you can see a chap with a box coming out of the shop looking at me a bit suspiciously.
i liked the look of the manual cashcard doer and nearly took it with me along with those coin bags and the photo tree above. actually, i should have taken that photo tree. oh well.

i like how they've made it clear it's playing or practising golf which is outlawed. just so you can't claim you were playing when you were practising and vice versa to avoid the rule

a number of interesting things happened on our holiday last summer. this pig walking by the window was one of them

we went on an excellent backstage tour of the national gallery yesterday with our friends. we weren't allowed to take photos, but i sneaked this one of a dust bin with a 'dead' mannequin in. it really is a fascinating tour for all the family. you really should go.
missing top of the eye
the london eye is shut at the moment. i assumed for refurbishment, but perhaps because the top has come off ?

good plan. advertise air conditined cars on an icey morning so it looks like they're got really powerful chillers.
winter blues
a garage with only blue cars for sale. and then a few minutes later a blue drinks carton and a blue de-icer.
tree season
i miss working in downtown london. over the next few days the streets will be full of trees celebrating how london was once a dense pine forest. the festival of abandoned trees only lasts a few days, but sadly i'll miss it.
luckily i caught an early specimen as i walked to work (due to my car being broken) yesterday

i had an email from anna (you know, anna, from west virginia) telling me she'd just googled for 'funky pancake' and found this site. she googled for funky pancake as that's what she's named her part border collie, part gold retriever puppy who is just five and half months old !
she kindly sent me a picture (of funky pancake rather than anna i assume - unless she's a particularly net-savvy pup)
so there we are. however, for future reference, when i refer to Mrs funkypancake i'm referring to my wife rather than this cute looking pup who lives a few thousand miles west of here !

we went geocaching in arborfield a couple of days ago and saw these fantastically wordy signs. Toxicara canis anyone ? made me stop and look
and nice to see a sign suggesting you use your common sense (although they make sure you know what that is by giving a long list below)
and there may be a thin line between playing and practising golf, so they've got both options covered. good for them.

i'll not make comments about how society has moved from greedy to needy, but 2009 looks like another exciting year. hopefully somewhere amongst the financial carnage we can all gain a wider perspective on the fragility of life and what on earth we're all doing here
kezia's thought of some new year's solutions (as she calls them). solutions sound much better than resolutions ! i've got a few of my own but won't bore you by sharing as funkypancake isn't that kind of blog. Although at some point i aim to make commenting on the blog easier !
